Nitish Jain (°1989, Lucknow, India) is a queer South Asian artist based in Prague, working between India and Europe. His practice crosses performance art, architecture, storytelling & object-making. Drawn to non-visual aesthetics, he invites audiences to "sense" rather than "only see" art by incorporating touch, taste, smell, listening & vision through participatory performances, one-to-one encounters & performance lectures.
Drawing from Indian rasa aesthetics and phenomenology, he develops poetic and layered works attentive to metaphor, memory & myth. His artistic lens is shaped by ecological thought, more-than-human perspectives & postcolonial critique. In an age of digital acceleration, his work advocates rest and wellbeing - for both humankind and ecology - through playful, sensory methods that counter overstimulation and spectacle.
He trained as an architect (Gold Medal, 2012) and scenographer (MA, DAMU Prague, 2018). He has been awarded fellowships at In the Field at Wiener Festwochen (2025), International Forum at Theatertreffen (2024) & ASEF LinkUp, Singapore (2024). His works have been showcased at international art festivals and in communities across Czechia, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, UK, UAE, Italy and India.
